I decided to be systematic this year and compile a list of conferences
that interested me ahead of time, so I could better know what I was
missing, where I might speak, and most importantly, how might plan my
time so I could go to the conferences that would be the most enjoyable
for me (sharing knowledge, learning things, talking with people, cool
travel).
Here's that list. It's heavy on feminist and media conferences, along with the more usual Web 2.0, tech. social media and venture/start-up events. I've excluded most very local events, smaller meet-ups and so on, just to try to keep it manageable (it's not).
The key: bold means I am going; bold ital, I am speaking.
Okay, here goes:

Susan - I found this through Steve Rubel's Twitter stream.
Great list and thanks for taking time to compile. I have a hunch there are a lot of 2009 conference lists out there people have created for their own use, but not enough are sharing with others! There is also this one by JD Lasica, which I've found useful. http://www.socialmedia.biz/2008/12/2009-conference.html
Is there any of the women-oriented events you would specifically recommend? I haven't heard of most of them and am wondering what your experiences have been in the past.
Awesome list, Susan. Nice to see so many O'Reilly shows represented. :)
FYI, Web 2.0 Expo New York will be back at Javits November 16-19.
We also have a new event on search acquisition and architecture: Found, June 9-11 in Burlingame, CA http://conferences.oreilly.com/found
If in your travels you come across any speakers that we should consider for our future conferences, feel free to let me know (suzanneAToreilly.com)...
Thanks for including the Anita Borg Institute's Women of Vision Awards (look forward to seeing you there!) and Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC). I'm hoping you'll submit a session for GHC when the Call for Participation goes out January 17; it would be great to have you there as well!
Hey Susan,
Don't forget the Nonprofit Technology Conference on April 26-28, 2009 in San Francisco!
You'll be there! Thanks!
And how about IZEAFest '09? It's later in the Fall, and we've got some of the world's top bloggers already signed-on to be involved.
Susan, your hard work assembling these has just made my life a whole lot easier. Do you ever do anything where you assess these conferences based on needs & return? It's hard to sift through them to determine if attending is worth the expense.
Great list, thanks Susan!
Susan-
Supernova 2009 will be December 1-3 in SF.
More Chicks who Click Conferences added and coming to a city near you!
