Or, to put it another way, no deal is real til the agreement is signed and the money changes hands.

Good report. I didn't know about this.
I was still hoping Riya would be sold. So what does the no-go mean ? That means intellectual monster Google is not satisfied with Riya's technology. I appreciate Google being very choosy about what they buy and I like that engineers are more valuable then anyone else in their company a.k.a "The Google Caste System".
I hope Google does come up with better technology to search photos.
