Blogging awards for newswomen

| | Comments (1)

Dominic Basulto over at Corante notes that that the Newswomen's Club of New York has added a blog category to its annual Front Page Awards for the very first time ever.
Of course, there's a catch (isn't there always?)
The competition for the awards are open only to "women journalists, photographers, writers, producers from print, radio and television, and online media in the New York major metropolitan area."
So if you're a blogger, baby, you're outta luck--unless the big girls say otherwise.

Here's a clip from the contest rules, which lead me to think that indie bloggers are a-okay:

"The contest is open to New York area-based staff, stringers, or freelance women journalists or women writing for a Web site with a target audience that resides in the New York metropolitan area. The metropolitan area is considered to be within a 75-mile radius of New York City and all of Long Island. The entrant does not have to be a member of the Newswomen's Club."
